INFO 360 - Winter 2024
Today, pop concert-goers need a more cohesive experience when sharing and preserving their live music memories, often becoming lost and scattered across numerous platforms and devices. “[Pop concerts] are meant to be a form of escapism…[but] the mental and physical preparation to attend a [pop concert] is an even bigger stressor itself” (Dam, 2023). Concerts should be fun, but the experience around them isn’t.
The pop concert experience is highly unique in that individuals want to “‘be there,’ to be a part of something unique and special, [and share] the experience with like-minded others.” (Brown, 2017) In this digital age, concerts have increased and dispersed out of major cities and into smaller cities. (Cho, 2017)
Platforms such as Ticketmaster, Bandsintown, and Songkick solve the problems of concert discovery but need more personalization and focus on pop concert-goers's past, present, and future experiences. These platforms inherently list concerts, not providing a way to preserve the memories associated with them or provide valuable information to concert-goers who do not want to rely on social media as a source of concert information.
The Ollo Passport tracks cities, artists, and concerts users have attended. Completing a Vibe Session earns a stamp for the concert (Figure 9), stored in the Passport. These stamps foster competition among friends for the most unique stamps, adding a fun collectible aspect to the concert experience and encouraging users to attend more events.
